Coffee Talk — How to Order

It's not just for breakfast anymore. People are drinking lattes at lunch and espresso after dinner. Mocha, cappuccino, lattes and macchiatos and the rest are more popular than ever - and to a much wider variety of people.

Since gourmet coffee shops are becoming increasingly popular, chances are you've been in one. If not, here's a quick lesson on what's available and what all the terminology means. After all, coffee is too good to be overwhelming. So, read on so you can communicate with your local barista without embarrassment.

"Drip" Coffee - "Drip" simply means brewed coffee. This is your basic cup of "Joe".

Barista - The coffee "bartender." Baristas expertly pull espresso shots; froth and steam milk and make exquisite coffee drinks for all of us.

Black Coffee - Coffee straight up, meaning you don't want additives like sugar or creamer.

Espresso - From the beautiful crema on top to the thick and flavorful body, espresso is the true essence of coffee. Espresso shots can be enjoyed by themselves, but are more often used as the important base for a variety of delicious concoctions, such as lattes and mochas. Yummy!

Café Latte - If you haven't had one, you haven't lived. Basic café lattes contain rich espresso combined with steamed milk and crowned with foamed milk. A latte can also be made on ice. Many of Peaberry's customers order vanilla lattes (latte with a shot of high-quality vanilla syrup), and for good reason.

Breve Latte - Same as the above, except, this one's made with half-and-half. Can you say rich?

Café Mocha - Mmmm. Something like an espresso hot cocoa. Real chocolate syrup added to espresso then bathed in steamed milk and topped with fresh whipped cream and rich cocoa sprinkles.

Cappuccino - A favorite in Italy, the Peaberry version will take you there. Espresso shares the cup with equal parts steamed milk and foamed milk. That's amoré!

Café Au Lait - Pronounced Café Olé. It's simply delicious drip coffee with hot milk. A nice change-up from drip coffee.

Café Americano - Here, espresso is mixed with hot water to create a "hip" new version of drip coffee. If you like the richness of espresso, this is a must!

Wet vs. Dry - Terms used for espresso drinks made with milk. "Wet" means you'd like more steamed milk and less foamed milk. "Dry" means you'd like less steamed milk more foam.

How would you describe your favorite Peaberry Coffee?
